Co-Creation In Global High-Tech

Co-Creation In Global High-TechCo-Creation In Global High-TechIn previous posts I have analyzed predictions from two years ago that were presented at the World Innovation Forum and World Business Forum in 2009.In my belastung post I introduced C.K. Prahalads message on the importance of co-creation in developing countries. This theory has a significant impact on job seekers looking for international high-tech job opportunities at large corporations. One of the key elements of Prahalads theory is that new inventions must be co-created with the audience for which they are intended. This audience may include the poorer residents in developing countries. When it comes to new high-tech gadgets and infrastructures, corporations must work closely with consumers to ensure that new products truly meet their needs. The market opportunities available in developing countries cannot be addressed by corporations if all of their intrapreneurs are deeply entrenched within their own cultures in a singl e geographic location. What is required instead is a local intrapreneur who can take the initiative to engage with these customers directly and participate in neuschpfung by co-creation.For innovation by co-creation to happen, corporations need to identify, train, and empower a set of auf der ganzen welt intrapreneurs who support each others efforts. Often times these corporations will train them using successful formulas (such as the seven habits of highly effective intrapreneurs). When employees have developed the skills and been given the autonomy to innovate in their own locale, they can engage local consumers and enter into the process of co-creation.Engagement with local consumers and customers fosters ideas, and these ideas will lead to product proposals. In the book Innovate With Global Influence, I describe multiple examples of how globally distributed employees were able to generate their own ideas and deliver them within a large corporation. What does this have to do with high-tech job seekers in developed countries (like the United States)? In the definition of reverse innovation, the last and final stage results in high-tech products that are exported back into more developed countries. This is extremely hard to do, because different countries have different regulations when it comes to the sustainability of high-tech products and the governance of high-tech information. Therefore it is imperative that local intrapreneurs interact with their global counterparts. Why? Because intrapreneurs need to collaborate with each other on the complex issues of global sustainability, and the international governance of information. The need for high-tech employees to participate in globally distributed product development is an exciting option for a career in high-tech innovation. My next post will discuss how job seekers can best leverage this opportunity.Steve http//stevetodd.typepad.com Twitter SteveTodd EMC Intrapreneur

Fathers want to be involved but work, stigma holds them back

Fathers want to be involved but work, stigma holds them backFathers want to be involved but work, stigma holds them backFifty years ago, mothers were fully in charge of raising kids, while dads only had to worry about feeding, bathing, and keeping their children alive for a maximum of two-and-a-half hours a week. Today, fathers see being a dad as central to their identity. Now, they spend about eight hours a week, on average, on childcare duties. But for many dads that still does not feel like enough. In a survey of over 1,700 men and women ages 25 to 45, Promundo and Dove Men+Care found that more fathers wantto be actively involved in their childrens lives, but feel held back by stigma and their jobs.Dads want to prioritize their children over their work but worry about losing their jobs if they do. One in five men said they were afraid of losing their job if they took the full amount of paternity leave.Fathers want to be caregivers, but workplaces dont support themIn the survey, men and women said that childcare was equally important to them. Dads want to be there for their children, but feel like they do not have a choice but to keep working. Seventy-three percent of dads agreed that workplaces provide little support for fathers. And they would be right. Paid parental leave is still a privilege given to the few. The U.S. does not guarantee that a father or mother will get it. And only 38% of parents nationwide can afford to take unpaid family leave.Beyond a lack of workplace support, traditional gender roles still prevent fathers from becoming caregivers. Men and women surveyed clearly saw the benefits of giving Moms paid leave, but they were more doubtful of the benefits of paid paternal leave. But study after study has found that paid family leave is not just a mothers issue, its a family issue.Children benefit from a fathers early presence in their life. Fathers who took longer family leaves were more likely to be involved in the day-to-day of their childs life later on, one study found. Children even grow up smarter when Dad is there more. Only half of the participants surveyed believed this finding, but its true - children do get higher test scores when fathers get involved at an early stage. The Department of Labor reported that paternity leave is associated with higher cognitive test scores for children.Workplaces and society need to catch up to what studies already know - when fathers get to spend more time with their children, everyone benefits.

How to Find and Manage a Band

How to Find and Manage a Band How to Find and Manage a Band A band manager is someone who generally takes care of the business of a band, but that doesnt mean that you shouldnt be on top of your music career before a manager comes into the picture- or that there arent things you should be doing even if you have a manager on board. These band management basics make a good checklist of the things you should be doing from day one of your bands life. Find the Band Unless youre a solo artist, it goes without saying that the first part of managing your band is actually FINDING the band. Look for musicians with whom you share musical interests, of course, and also look for musicians that have the same attitude toward things like practicing and songwriting that you do. Remember, if all goes well, youre going to be spending a lot of time with these people, and it is worth being clear up front about expectations. Practice Makes Perfect You can be the most gifted musician in the world, and you still need to practice. Good bands rehearse. Sticking to a practice schedule is a good way to keep everyone on track. If you find that committing to practicing is hard for you, or someone in your band just refuses to stick to the practice schedule, it may be time for a change. Record the Demo The first step to getting noticed for any band is to record a demo. Demo recording  doesnt have to be expensive and complicated. The important thing is having a short set of recordings on hand, so you have a way to promote your music. Create a Promo Package Once you have your demo recorded, you should create a promo package- a package including a demo recording, a bio of the band, and copies of any press the band has received. Promo packages are the key to just about anything you need to do as a band, from all kinds of self-promotion of your music to approaching a record label to getting a show. Get the Word Out Getting the word out to your fans (or your fans-to-be) is very important, but it is equally important to get the word out about your band within the music industry. This can mean contacting record labels to try and get a deal, contacting promoters for shows, contacting managers and agents who can help you with your career, and so on. In addition to having your promo package ready, it is also a good idea to pay careful attention to approaching these people in the right way- give them the information they need about you, nothing more and nothing less, to get the best results. Taking Care of Business While the money might not be rolling in right now, its important to time to make sure the framework is in place to handle it if it starts. Dont neglect things like contracts because there is no money involved at this stage, or youre working with friends, or you think theyre just not cool- bad planning of this kind will definitely come back and bite you down the road, and you are certain to find that even less cool. Of course, these things are just a sampling of all of the issues a band may face and all of the band management related things that are to be done when youre getting a music career off the ground. If you make sure youve got an eye on these basic tasks at all times, however, youll always be one step ahead of the game.

Mobile Eye Care for the Developing World

Mobile Eye Care for the Developing World Mobile Eye Care for the Developing World Mobile Eye Care for the Developing World We often take the gift of sight for granted until theres a problem. And for many of those eye problems, there are easy treatments: optometrists, eyeglasses, contact lenses. If you have access to them. In many developing countries, and even parts of the U.S., access is major problem. One company is coming up with a solution. EyeNetra in Somerville, MA, has created mobile devices for eye tests and care that can go to the patients, where they are, instead of the other way around. The kind of start-up costs you have with an eye care facility can be incredibly difficult, says Vitor Pamplona, co-founder and CEO of EyeNetra. Even just having the machines can be highly expensive. [For people] in developing countries and rural areas, it can be very difficult to find a facility nearby that can take care of them. For many places, if they only could have the equipment be affordable and mobile, they could do it. Thats where this system comes in to try and take care of this issue. The company uses three main devices, all small and portable enough to be taken anywhere, along with a phone, he says. The first device, the auto-lensometer, takes a picture through the lens, gathering information through eye interaction, which is then put into a cell phone. The device is designed for single vision, progressive lenses, and bifocals. The device curvature also allows the lens to be in the correct position at all times, says Pamplona. The NETRA auto-refractor measures sphere, cylinder, axis and pupillary distance. Image: EyeNetra The second device, the autorefractor, measures cylinder, axis, sphere, and pupillary distance. Its looking inside like a regular display, Pamplona says. Youre looking through two lenses and see the screen of the cell phone play a game and the result is there. The refractor is similar to a binocular, he says, because you want two eyes to be in the same state while measuring. The third device is the phoropter. Set up to check refraction for lenses, its a standalone that doesnt need electronics. And, according to the EyeNetra website, it is light enough to be held by the patient during testing. The system also has record-keeping. We have the software on the back end so, with the servers, we can keep the data for their patient and its secure and integrated, he says. Thinking Globally In addition to parts of the U.S., Pamplona says orders have come from 72 countries, including India, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The full system costs $3,000 while regularly it could be around $75,000, says Pamplona. This makes it easier for a medical professional to not only stay in business in a rural setting but possibly charge less to those who are impoverished as it is. We want to get people back to full performance, he says. Its about the ability to perform, to go into a workplace and be able to take care of your family. There is an emotional aspect to not seeing well, to not having the same level of opportunity. You give someone lenses and now it makes it a little more fair. Everyone deserves that. Eric Butterman is an independent writer. For many places, if they only could have the equipment be affordable and mobile they could do it.Vitor Pamplona, co-founder and CEO of EyeNetra

Research (surprisingly) shows that the majority of colleges accept the majority of applicants

Research (surprisingly) shows that the majority of colleges accept the majority of applicants Research (surprisingly) shows that the majority of colleges accept the majority of applicants If you’re not shooting for the Ivies or a handful of selective schools, college students needn’t worry too much â€" the fact is, says Pew Research Center, the majority of U.S. colleges accept “most” (about two-thirds or more) of students who apply. The hyper-selective schools are few: Out of 1,364 four-year colleges and universities, Pew examined for the year 2017, the most recent year for which data was available, 17 of those admitted fewer than 10% of applicants. Those included familiar names like Stanford (4.7%), Harvard (5.2%), and Yale (6.9%).Follow Ladders on Flipboard!Follow Ladders’ magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more!An additional 29 schools admitted between 10% and 20% of applicants, bastions like Georgetown (15.7%), the University of Southern California (16%), and the University of California, Berkeley (17.1%).Those competitive schools accepting 20% or less, however, amount to only 3.4% of all the colle ges and universities in Pew’s analysis.More than half (53.3%) of the schools in Pew’s 1,364-school sample admitted two-thirds or more of those who applied in 2017, including St. John’s University (67.7%), Virginia Tech (70.1%), and George Mason University (81.3%).Explaining admissions ratesPew noted that admissions rates have fallen in recent years. At 45% of the schools they examined, admission rates were at least 10% lower in 2017 than in 2002. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that colleges are being more stringent about who they let in. Rates have fallen because prospective students are applying to more schools than they used to, and colleges have yet to find a spot for all of them.“In absolute numbers,” according to Pew, “schools are making more admission offers than before, but not enough to keep pace with the soaring number of applications.”To put it a different way, in 2017 there were about 6.8 applications per student who eventually ended up enrolled so mewhere. So chill out, moms and dads. There are plenty out good schools out there accepting students, so there’s so need to bribe your way in.You might also enjoy… New neuroscience reveals 4 rituals that will make you happy Strangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds 10 lessons from Benjamin Franklin’s daily schedule that will double your productivity The worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs 10 habits of mentally strong people

Students Hone Their Presentation Skills at the Old Guard Compe... Students Hone Their Presentation Skills at the Old Guard Compe... Students Hone Their Presentation Skills at the Old Guard Competition Finals Dec. 9, 2016 Dennis Armstrong (left), chair of the Old Guard Committee, with Jefferson Dixon, winner of the Old Guard Oral Competition finals. Engineering students from the United States, Egypt, India, Lebanon, Turkey and Peru put their presentation skills to the test during the final round of the Old Guard Oral Competition, which took place Nov. 12 at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) in Phoenix, Ariz. The annual competition, which is open to ASME student members, was designed to emphasize the importance of being able to deliver clear, concise and effective oral presentations. Contestants at the Old Guard Competition finals, who were all winners of regional Old Guard Competitions held earlier in the year, each gave 15-minute presentations on a technical, economic or environmental aspect of engineering or other basic engineering theme. Each presentation was then followed by a five-minute question-and-answer session. The presentations were judged by a panel of ASME members on the following four criteria: content, organization, delivery and effectiveness, and the quality of discussion evoked by the presentation. Old Guard Committee Chair Dennis Armstrong (center) with the top four winners of the Old Guard Oral Competition finals: (left to right) Brennan Harrup, Daniel Kimminau, Jefferson Dixon and Maryam Nsaif. Jefferson Dixon from Georgia Institute of Technology took first place at the daylong competition with his presentation, Power Generation from a Sr-90 Betavoltaic Device. Veterinary Acupuncturist Career Profile

Veterinary Acupuncturist Career Profile Veterinary Acupuncturist Career Profile Alternative medicines and treatments are getting more popular not just for people, but also for animals. Some of these methods include homeopathy, massage, herbology, chiropractic treatments, and acupuncture. Acupuncture has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 3,000 years and involves the use of very thin needles being inserted into various points in the body. Its believed that acupuncture stimulates healing processes in the body and thus, allows the body to heal itself. The treatment has been used for both prevention and the treatment of diseases. In the case of animals, the person who performs the process is the veterinary acupuncturist. Heres a look at the duties, career options, educational requirements, salary and job outlook of the veterinary acupuncturist. Duties Veterinary acupuncturists insert small needles into various pressure points on an animal’s body. The insertion of the needles into these pressure points causes various natural chemicals such as endorphins to be released in the body. Acupuncturists may also connect tiny electrodes to the acupuncture needles after insertion, using a mild electrical current to stimulate the various muscle groups and nerves. Veterinary acupuncture can be used to treat a wide array of conditions such as arthritis, neurologic disorders, reproductive disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, paralysis and muscle injuries. It is also frequently used as a maintenance procedure for healthy, athletic animals used in performance competition events. Many Thoroughbred racehorses, for example, receive regular visits from their veterinarian for acupuncture treatment. Many canine breeds suffer from hip dysplasia and other degenerative joint-related conditions - especially as they get older. While many traditional medicines may temper the symptoms, the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture says acupuncture can be fairly effective when treating dogs with these debilitating conditions. Veterinary acupuncturists develop and implement treatment plans based on the individual animal’s needs. The acupuncturist must determine the frequency of treatment as well as the anatomical points that must be stimulated to correct the problem. Most treatment plans for acute problems involve more frequent treatments in the initial stages and taper off over a period of a few weeks. Veterinary acupuncturists may also design special nutritional and behavioral modification programs to work in conjunction with the acupuncture regimen. The acupuncturist must be able to communicate the treatment regimen to the pet owner effectively. They must be able to assure them that acupuncture is not a guarantee, but an alternative to traditional medication. Career Options Veterinary acupuncturists may specialize by species, with equine and canine treatment being the most popular. Some acupuncturists may also specialize in treating avian or exotic species. Acupuncturists may practice in veterinary clinics, kennels or zoos. Large animal acupuncturists tend to travel to provide services to their clients, while small animal acupuncturists tend to see patients in an office setting. Some acupuncturists choose to branch out, offering additional alternative treatment options, such as herbal therapy or massage therapy. Education Training To become an accredited veterinary acupuncturist, the practitioner must be a licensed veterinarian who has completed extensive, additional training related to muscle physiology, anatomy and acupuncture techniques. Founded in 1974, the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) has offered the most prominent international acupuncture certification path. The IVAS, which has more than 1,800 members worldwide, certifies licensed veterinarians and fourth-year veterinary students to practice on large animals, small animals, avian species and exotic species. The IVAS certification course is comprised of both educational lectures and practical hands-on training. Most American veterinary acupuncturists also choose to join the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture (AAVA), the U.S.-based affiliate of the IVAS which was founded in 1998. This group focuses on offering additional continuing educational opportunities and information for U.S.-based veterinary acupuncturists. It is important to note most states only allow acupuncture to be practiced by a licensed veterinarian as it is classified as a surgical procedure. An aspiring acupuncturist is unlikely to enter the profession without first obtaining a veterinary degree. It would be wise to check with veterinary boards and departments of health for specific requirements. Salary The salary a veterinary acupuncturist earns can vary based on factors such as the number of patients treated, job location, years of experience, level of education in the field and whether the vet has partner or associate status in their practice. With significant experience and skill, the veterinary acupuncturist can earn top dollar for their services. When calculating their yearly salary, a veterinary acupuncturist must take into account additional expenditures such as the purchase of medical equipment and travel expenses for making home and farm visits to work on their clients. Most experienced veterinarians earn a salary in excess of $80,000 per year. Board certified specialists can earn salaries well over $150,000. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS), the average annual salary for any veterinarian in 2017 was $90,420. The highest 10% of vets earned more than $159,320, while the lowest 10% earned less than $53,980. The agency does not differentiate between standard veterinary practices and those who offer specialties. While veterinary acupuncture is not recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association as an individual specialty category at this time, many board certified vets have completed the additional training in acupuncture and use it as a part of their practice. Job Outlook The BLS projects careers in the veterinary field will continue to grow at a slightly faster than average rate - roughly 19% between 2016 and 2026. This is because of the rise in consumer spending for animal wellbeing and healthcare, as well as the advances in veterinary technology. The interest in alternative therapies for animals also seems to be growing steadily. Veterinary acupuncture is expected to grow in popularity as it gains recognition in the medical community and continues to prove beneficial in treating various physical problems. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, the average salary of a veterinarian increases by nearly six percent each year, outpacing the rate of inflation and cost of living increases. Veterinary acupuncture is part of the very stable veterinary profession that has an excellent outlook for the future.

No Rest Between Jobs No Rest Between Jobs How to make the best use of the time between a job offer and your first day on the job. You’ve cleaned up your resume, worked your network, aced interviews and landed a job. Now it’s time to relax and recharge before you start the grind anew in a fresh job. Right? Not when you’ve reached the senior ranks, career experts told Ladders. The pace at which executives are expected to get with the corporate program leaves them little time to orient. Thus, the time between a job offer and your first day on the job is a window of opportunity to get a head start on making the job work for you. It’s also a chance to tie up loose ends with your old job or your job search, manage relationships, and prepare your professional network to migrate with you to the next position.Far from a rest-and-recuperation cycle, this stretch could be the busiest time of your life, said James Thompson, vice president of business development for JMJ Phillip, a recruiting and research firm that specializes in ma nufacturing and information technology.“Like it or not, most people, regardless of the position, are under evaluation for the first few months or even longer,” Thompson said. “You may have done research prior to the interviews, but you should still do as much preparation as you can prior to your start date. Everyone loves to see someone hit the ground running, and the higher you are up the ladder, the less hand-holding is going to be done.”Carol Meerschaert said the three weeks were critical between her last day at her old job and her first day as the director of marketing and communications for the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association. She started the job Nov. 16 after nearly two years as assistant director of marketing for another national health care organization. “You want to hit the ground running and show you know your stuff,” she said.During her three weeks between jobs, Meerschaert read everything she could get her hands on about her new organization and offe red to assist in any way she could to ease her entry into the group. She even sat in on a two-hour conference call while in New York on vacation.“I knew that a lot of people wanted this job, so to prove myself, I read the whole Web site,” she said. “This sounds boring, and it is, but I wanted to get as much information as I could. Also, it’s a marketing and communications position, so I wanted to see what their marketing and communications were - where my work would be cut out for me.”Start right awayThe time between a job offer and start date can make or break your early performance and reputation at a company, said recruiters and human-resource experts who have seen candidates thrive and fail early on the job.Abby Kohut, president and staffing consultant of Staffing Symphony, advises the candidates she works with to research a company and its key players thoroughly before their first days on the job.“You should be particularly interested in a company’s products, ser vices, financials and culture,” Kohut said. “During the first few weeks (on the job), learning about the who, what, where, why and how is the main responsibility, so any head start you have will be helpful.”That kind of due diligence makes new employees “much more productive in their first 100 days,” said Tony Deblauwe, the founder of HR4Change, a resource for personal and corporate development services.Deblauwe recommended that new hires work with their managers and human- resources departments to obtain information such as org charts, talent inventories and marketing data on product strategies. This provides “a picture from the data of where they need to focus and use that information in the one-on-one meetings with key stakeholders that occur in the first 45 days,” he said. “They also figure out who to partner with to begin delegating tasks and identifying high-potential talent who are eager to move quickly.”Meerschaert was particularly interested in learning as much as she could about the people with whom she would be working, especially since she would be working remotely. In addition to communicating with her soon-to-be colleagues by e-mail and phone, Meerschaert attended in-person networking events where she got the lowdown on the people with whom she would be working and to whom she’d report.Spread the wordSocial-networking sites are another valuable tool to help job seekers effectively bridge the gap between one job and another. After formally resigning from her former previous position, Meerschaert immediately announced her new job on her LinkedIn status update, where she knew many members of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association would read the news. Meerschaert also used her Twitter account to announce her new role. “It showed the pride I had in landing this job,” she said.Michael Hickins also used social- networking sites, including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, to announce that he was taking on a new role, developin g online products for The Wall Street Journal. Before that, Hickins had been blogging for organizations including InformationWeek and BNET.Hickins said he wanted to take time off before he started his new position, but there was so much he wanted to accomplish between the job offer and the start of the new job that he took only a single weekend to relax. One of the most important things for Hickins was to let the people with whom he’d been working know that his situation was changing and how much he appreciated their professional relationships.“What I did the first few days (after I got the offer) was reach out to everyone who had been a source,” Hickins said. “I thanked each person for being a good source, for keeping me in the loop or what have you. I told them I had a great new job, that I was really happy and that I would share more details when I could.”Hickins said this step was important so his clients had as much notice as possible that he was moving on to something different but also to make sure that doors would be open in the future.“You never know what’s going to happen,” Hickins said. “I mean, (the offer from The Wall Street Journal) was as solid a job offer as you could get - I don’t have any doubts that it’s going to work out - but you never know. So I wanted to make sure that no one was offended because of me suddenly disappearing off the face of the planet and not doing them the courtesy of telling them what was going on.”A kind and thoughtful resignation letter as soon as you accept a new position also maintains a bridge to past relationships, JMJ Phillip’s Thompson said. Even if your experience was less than pleasant, Thompson echoed Hickins’ “you never know” mantra: “You may have no plans to ever return to your previous employer regardless of the situation, but in five years, you never know when someone else has jumped ship (to another company) and may want to give you a call to bring you aboard with them. ”Passing the torchThere are other loose ends to tie, such as passing the torch of institutional knowledge and ensuring a smooth procedural transition.Managing relationships and tying loose ends was equally important to Meerschaert as she prepared to exit her former job. She spent time letting the vendors she had been working with know she was leaving. She also worked diligently to ease the transition for her soon-to-be-former co-workers, especially since the manager there had recently left the organization and the department was shrinking.Meerschaert and her former employer were aided by the fact that she had long operated under a philosophy she called her “hit-by-a-bus attitude.”“Tomorrow, you could get hit by a bus,” she said. “Can somebody come in and do your job?” This mindset drove Meerschaert to keep exacting records of processes and procedures that she was able to pass on to co-workers to enable a smooth transition. HR housekeeping Before starting in their respe ctive new jobs, both Hickins and Meerschaert tried to accomplish “HR housekeeping” tasks for the new company, such as filling out HR forms.“The Wall Street Journal gave me the option of filling out a lot of the HR paperwork online ahead of time, and I did that so that when I got there I wouldn’t lose as much time during the first couple of days as you typically do doing all of that stuff,” Hickins said.Kohut also recommended requesting that business cards and technology be ready for the first day and that meetings with key players be scheduled in your first few days on the job. “You may be permitted to come in several days before to set up your new office and to meet several members of your team,” she said. “This will make the actual first day so much easier.”Prepare to feel stupid The loss of a job is widely considered to be one of life’s most stressful events, but so is the start of a new job. Going from being the go-to person when questions need answering to b eing the person who needs to ask all of the questions is difficult, to say the least. It’s important to acknowledge this as you make your transition; that was the consensus of everyone who spoke to Ladders. “Do not expect to move mountains during your first week,” said Kohut.Hickins went so far as to rehearse the emotions of that first day.“I spent some time thinking about my past experiences with a new job, where the first couple of weeks are really hard emotionally,” he said. “I’d come home and feel like, ‘I really don’t know if I can do this - maybe it’s beyond me, maybe I got a job that’s too hard for me.’ I remembered that experience.”Hickins said this process helped him set realistic expectations for himself so he “didn’t feel like a failure because I hadn’t solved all of the world’s problems on my first day of the job.”Meerschaert agreed: “You just know that you’re going to go in and you’re going to feel stupid for a while because yo u don’t know what’s going on.”Nevertheless, she said, it’s important to remember the skill, knowledge and acumen that got you the job in the first place. In any case, a little modesty and humility will be appropriate at this time, Meerschaert said.“You should tread lightly and make every attempt to fit into the team and blend in with the culture,” she said. “Everyone has their eyes on you, so while you should try to make a fast impact, many people and organizations find it difficult to accept change. The time will come for you to let your opinions be known, and you will sense when that is.”
